FibreGuard Fabrics at Namia River Retreat (CASE STUDY)
Today we’re bringing to a dream location: the Namia River Retreat on Cồn Ba Xã Islet in Hoi An, Vietnam. Their luxurious attention to hospitality, blended with Vietnamese cultural experiences, makes it a truly special wellness destination.
What makes Namia River Retreat a unique hospitality project?
We’re proud that FibreGuard fabrics were selected in fitting out this project. They were looking for materials that would both complement the ambiance they were creating as well as being fabulously soft and comfortable. And they chose us!
There was only one complication to overcome (which, spoiler, we did): the demands of a tropical climate.

What obstacles did a tropical climate present for this luxury Vietnam retreat?
Beyond aesthetics, using responsibly designed materials was non-negotiable for this wellness-focused destination. The retreat's designers sought fabrics and materials that provide genuine eco credentials, and be durable, and soft…That’s a lot.
We’re talking performance, beauty, cultural relevance, sustainability, and versatility. This is where FibreGuard comes in, as supplied by Acacia Fabrics, our partner in Southeast Asia.
With a HQ in Malaysia and founded in 1994, they bring decades of experience to the table, something that shines out in this case study.
What do the designers at Namia River Retreat say about FibreGuard?
"FibreGuard's performance fabric was the perfect solution for Namia River Retreat. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification was very important for us, seeing as skin-on-fabric contact would be high. They also perform perfectly in our humid climate, which is not something that can be said about a lot of fabrics out there. — Namia River Retreat
How do performance fabrics tackle UV rays and humidity?
We’ve been engineering contract fabrics to stand up to UV rays and humidity since we began.
Our goal is simple: furniture that can handle whatever the climate throws at it, while still feeling great and looking beautiful in any space (even luxurious wellness ones).
Now, no fabric is completely immune to the sun's effects or to humidity.
Even with the best dyes out there, all fabrics will eventually show signs of fading when they're basking in direct sunlight day after day. That's just the reality of materials in our world.
And humidity?
That's another challenge altogether, one that’s especially acute in Vietnam.
When moisture hangs heavy in the air, fabrics naturally soak it up, which can open the door to all sorts of unwelcome guests like mould and mildew, not to mention those stubborn musty smells. Enter FibreGuard.
If our ‘indoor’ upholstery fabrics tackle these issues, what about the outdoor ones?
This is where FibreGuard Outdoor comes in. It’s unique anti-microbial and anti-bacterial attributes combat the growth of mould or mildew. It combines the distinctive FibreGuard fabric stain free technology with a few little extras, including using solution-dyed polyolefin yarns.
This has the knock-off effect of stopping the spread of bacteria and germs too! Very important for wellness and day spa spaces, where all materials must endure constant contact with chlorinated water and massage oils (and more).
What makes FibreGuard fabrics the ideal choice for luxury hospitality projects?
The success of FibreGuard fabrics at Namia River Retreat showcases how the right textiles can help to create a very special hospitality experience.

How did FibreGuard hospitality fabrics meet both performance and aesthetic needs?
The Namia River Retreat selected our stain resistant fabrics that included a premium linen-cotton-performance blend - (22% Linen, 3% Cotton). This was complemented with textile selections across our entire Bru Group:
- a sheer that's a blend of 29% Linen and 23% Organic Cotton
- a multipurpose plain fabric that also contains 58% cotton for that lovely hand-feel
- blackouts for uncompromised, restorative sleeping environments
- a sheer with an irresistible tactility
Thanks to the linen or cotton content in the fabrics, they combine the very lovely hand-feel of linen with the FibreGuard performance standards: proof that you don’t have to sacrifice tactile quality for durability. This special tactile quality helped to create a cohesive design language that ran through the entire setting, from private pool villas to spa spaces to dining venues.
Are these performance fabrics also environmentally friendly?
All FibreGuard fabrics are eco-friendly and PFAS-free, certified by the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, and are tested for VOCs.
What does this mean?
No chemicals, no toxins, just carefree style: a meaningful contribution to the holistic ‘wellbeing’ factor of wellness destinations like this.
From an operational standpoint, the Namia River team’s design choices help us to showcase how effectively FibreGuard's stain-resistant properties perform in daily use. They didn’t have to resort to the usual strategy to hide spills or stains in heavy use spaces, either. Designers traditionally would specify upholstery with bold patterns or in block colours…so we’re genuinely happy to be able to provide them with softer, neutral shades, that will perform even better than their original choices.
Instead, all the colours are neutral, and even muted in tone…something that would normally strike fear into facility managers at the thought of the upkeep.
Maintenance staff can quickly clean spills with just water, no chemicals required. This ease of care translates into lower replacement costs, eliminating the lost time that reupholstery of any furniture pieces could result in.
