Fabric Stories: Cherry Red

There's something irresistibly delicious about dark cherry red. It sits somewhere on the intersection between the chaos energy of fire engine red and the more sedate feel of a deep, dark burgundy. It’s beloved worldwide for a reason, from fashion to makeup …to FibreGuard.

Cherry Red kept popping up (pun intended) on our feeds thanks to Pinterest, both their trends reporting ‘Pinterest Predicts’, but also their data-driven colour palette of 2025. Intriguingly, their colours are all named after food!

What does that say about 2025?

Either way, today we’re sharing our love for this fabulous colour. Ready to be inspired by a showcase of our own performance fabrics in the whole colour range of cherry red?

We thought you’d never ask.

Dark, cherry red vibes

Cherry red is dripping with elegance, everywhere from your lipstick to your upholstered headboard. It can stretch from the brightness of ripening cherries, all the way down to dark wine and even, with a hint of brown, polished mahogany furniture that tells stories of generations past.

Yes, we’ve talked about burgundy fabrics, before. But there’s something unexpected and unconventional about cherry red. When you look through our fabrics in this colour, you can tangibly feel the special cherry red effect that transforms the ordinary into something extraordinarily luscious.

So where is this colour craze coming from?

Pinterest Predicts: Cherry Red, Cherry Coded

How Pinterest landed on cherry red is interesting especially when you look at our own trends reporting and how our team works here. Even other brands are in on the action: Behr paint named Rumours as their 2025 Colour of the Year.

We start with what we do best: using our data-backed trendspotting methodology and cutting-edge visual search technology to spot what will be really big in the year ahead in our annual Pinterest Predicts 2025 trend report. From there, we zeroed in on search terms sparking colourful conversations—think ‘cherry red fashion’ and ‘soft yellow aesthetics’. Then, we mapped the emerging trends and colour clusters against first-party data. Looking at actions such as saves, we were able to see which colours were driving engagement over time.

And of course, we have our own Pinterest Predicts board dedicated this colour.

The FibreGuard designer guide to finding the perfect cherry shade

Not all cherry reds are created equal.

"Remember, colour is not just colour, but mood, temperature and structure." – Van Day Truex

As we mentioned, the spectrum ranges from bright, almost candy-like tones to deep, brooding shades that border on brown. Your perfect dark cherry red depends on:

  1. Any existing colour palette you’re working with, and/or decor style
  2. The natural light in the space
  3. The overall mood you wish to create
  4. The architectural features you want to highlight or downplay

Plus, there’s a fun little idea that’s been whizzing around the internet when it comes to colour: the unexpected red theory.

What’s that?

So, the ‘unexpected red theory’ is a term coined by Brooklyn-based designer Taylor Migliazzo Simon on TikTok. It describes the interior design phenomenon by which adding a pop of red instantly improves the look of any space, especially in places where it shouldn’t necessarily make sense. They argue that it adds a surprise element that really adds to the visual impact.

It can be as simple as a red lamp or soft furnishing, scarlet a painted window trim or doorframe, or a completely random brick red cupboard that stands boldly in your otherwise neutral kitchen. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sold. — Charlotte Olby, Homes & Gardens

The most successful cherry vibes come from looking at all your options before making your choice. It’s good to know what’s out there!

Cherry red: A FibreGuard bedroom fit

Now, we’re not interior design experts by any means. Our passion is for fabrics, and for colour.

And in our opinion, cherry red was made for bedrooms. It honestly just creates an atmosphere of luxury and intimacy that few other colours can match.

Here's how we see FibreGuard’s cherry red fabrics taking centre stage in your sleeping sanctuary:

  1. Cherry red accent pillows against neutral bedding. Get inspired: What bedrooms can teach you about minimalist design
  2. Statement walls in deep cherry, balanced with creamy whites or soft greys. Dare to go nude: Yes, you can specify light neutrals in high-traffic spaces
  3. Cherry-toned wood elements through furniture pieces or picture frames. Go retro: it's the 1970s again and Wes Anderson inspired interiors are IN
  4. Extra textural elements like velvet or silk in complementary burgundy or merlot shades. Keep reading: 2025 Upholstery: A Guide Through Natural vs. Plush Textures

Was the super deluxe upholstered fabric headboard invented for any shade other than something deeply saturated like cherry red? No. They’re a match made in heaven.

What fabric textures work best for a cherry red colour?

We’re dealing with a very versatile colour. Cherry red can read as romantic, dramatic, or cosy depending on your styling choices. The overall vibe you’re going for therefore obviously affects your fabric choices as well. A deep plush velvet in cherry red, for example, would pack a different kind of punch than a textured plain fabric.
