This is FibreGuard's commitment to sustainability in the textiles industry
Environmental sustainability in the textiles industry is a huge, layered topic, and there are no ‘magic bullet’ solutions to the climate change issues that are forecast to increase.
Organisations and individuals across all sections of our society are searching for concrete actions they can take towards sustainable business practices.
At FibreGuard and in our wider group, we focus on sustainability practicalities first. We asked ourselves:
What sustainability metrics can we immediately control?
- The kilometres travelled by our textile products and our people.
- The environmental impact of our packaging.
- The sustainability of our fabric suppliers.
- Digital fabric sampling and cutting down on textile waste.
- The environmental impact of our overall textiles manufacturing and shipping operations.
Leveraging data and reimagining our operations made these metrics into our own personal, ambitious goals. We knew what we needed to improve on and how, and where.
But we're not stopping there
Knowing where to begin is simply the best place to begin
The textiles industry needs more than these actions alone if we are to make impact-driven change. It was this defining moment that helped us form a partner relationship with Futureproofed and their team of experts.
Under their guidance we are strategically moulding FibreGuard’s corporate vision and evolving our sustainability actions according to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the relevant SDGs within this framework.
What are the Sustainable Development Goals most relevant for FibreGuard?
The Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all." FibreGuard’s goals have been centred on 5 key Sustainable Development Goals that lie in our core spheres of influence:
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption
SDG 13: Take Climate Action
SDG 16: Traceability and Transparency of our Textiles
SDG 17: Partnerships
SDG8: DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
Fundamentally, we are a business that believes in the enrichment of our people and the planet in which we live, and understanding our impact is key to our sustainability strategy.
SDG 12: RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTON & CONSUMPTION
The development of our digital offering through Twinbru is one of our core sustainable innovation directives. The entire textiles sampling process has the potential to be partly replaced by digital platforms, which will reduce the carbon footprint and improve the economic stream for the textiles industry.
SDG 13: TAKE CLIMATE ACTION
To understand what sustainability improvement steps you need to take, you need to first ascertain the impact that you’re already having. We want to share our continued sustainability journey, the lessons we have learnt (and will continue to learn!), provide insights regarding the impact of our products, and keep you informed about our ESG progress.
SDG 16: TRACEABILITY & TRANSPARENCY OF OUR TEXTILES
We understand the role that regulation and certification plays when considering textile products and textile production. Our eco standards are critical of the promise our suppliers make to us, and the promise that we then extend to our customers. Explore our traceability and transparency efforts through eco certification.
SDG 17: PARTNERSHIPS
The most important aspect of any sustainability journey is that of partnership. Interwoven into our story to more sustainable practices are the stories of relationships and how we are all in this together. We are all woven together with a joint responsibility to protect our climate.
